The combination of Venus and Mars – significators in our horoscope of our engendered, interpersonal feminine and masculine selves, generally indicate the level of intensity and style with which we express our individual ‘urge to love and be loved’. Their midpoint can be simply be described as our ‘Passion Axis’, alignments to this often indicators to what turns us on (or off) – especially in matters where the opposite sex (or our ‘other half’) is concerned.
Much can be written just about this point, since relationships are our second-favourite subject (after self-interests, of course), but let us keep this terse and concise, for the sake of practicality.
ASPECTS OF PASSION:
We are all capable of becoming passionate to some degree – in short, it is our ability to express strong emotions of desire (or disgust) about something, then apply individual effort to show how we are worthy, competent or deserving of attaining a certain, suitable outcome for ourselves.
Venus/Mars aspects in the horoscope generally emphasise an individual’s awareness of issues to do with sex and sexuality. Strong identification with one’s gender or sexuality charges the individual’s environment with increased sexual energy, polarising attraction/repulsion to the opposite gender. Needless to say, the softer aspects (sextile/trine) will make the exchange a little more flowing, less challenging than the harder aspects (squares/oppositions), but generally speaking, natal aspects involving Venus and Mars indicate that the native’s sexual identity and appetites for a mate will come to the forefront, whether it’s love, hate or a mix of both. Activity from other planets often provides more depth into this.
CYCLES OF SEXUAL GROWTH:
In the synodic cycle, transits between the two planets show an arousal of the two opposing energies of our basic sexual chemistry (attraction and repulsion) igniting strong feelings of love and hate. These are commonly polarised around issues and themes attributed to the opposite sex. Ironically, themes that we find most alien and threatening also (strangely) turn us on, so we engage into a dance which, in its course, raises our awareness on that which we are most passionate about.
New Cycles, which commence at the conjunction (see below) often coincide with periods of experience through which our romances and dalliances with the opposite gender, and experiences with sex itself, will come to be seen in a new light. It must be said that if Venus/Mars are in aspect, an intense, unfiltered biological urge underpins much of the charge being generated between two individuals – especially of the opposite sex. Hence, exchanges commenced during these times are more likely to lead us to the bedroom rather than the altar, and a devil-may-care attitude about propriety of one another or the opinions of others tends not to affect the relationship too much.
High spirits and heady pursuits for pleasure may eventually crash and burn before evolving (see squares) during the cycle’s relatively short, ~2yr duration. Learning how to be sensitive to each other’s’ differences provides the key to avoiding any emotional wreckages or immature love-bonds. It is through this appetite for something different that we are afforded opportunities in life to experiment into erotic areas which otherwise only languish in our wildest sexual fantasies.
CYCLES IN VIRGO:
The last three (full) Venus/Mars cycles have consecutively commenced in Virgo, the first being in Nov 2015, then Oct 2017, and now Aug 2019. This has brought a lot of earthy criticism to the interplay between genders, resulting in involuntary chastity and even cynicism about love altogether.
Where Venus conjuncts Mars in Virgo, there is generally a prissy, sexuallly reserved and unromantic (more practically-minded) purpose to love affairs. There can be a “what-can-you-do-for-me” approach. Any dalliances commenced during key transits of this cycle are generally accompanied with a high degree of mental criticism and analysis over minute gender differences. Usefulness and efficiency are big-ticket items. These often highlight the most grotesquely alien, romantically distasteful or threatening idiosyncrasies of the opposite gender.
Whilst this may cause constant grumbling and fault-finding, there is a strange attraction – a biological (or animal) magnetism or fascination, beyond any logical reasoning.
Needless to say, any love/hate affairs here bring up lots of things to work on and improve. In the most ‘abstract’ sense (not a Virgo word), it behooves us to find ways to bind spirit to the flesh, or else choose to focus celibately on our individual self-perfection, learning to satisfy sexuality, polarity and gender balances within our own personal solitude and sexual abstinence, sobriety, or through service to others.
Single parenthood is also accented during the Virgo cycles, possibly as a symbol of raising awareness of the practical importance the opposite sex plays in raising children. Many seeds are sown into our rising appreciation of the opposite sex during these cycles.
LAST RITES:
This final Virgo conjunction, conjunct Sun/Juno and trine Uranus in Taurus promises only to prompt humanity to explore its wider practical needs and concerns, often by deferring or hampering sexual needs, relegating love, marriage, parenting and nurturance to a less ‘humanoid’ kind of partner (whatever that may mean for you). Perhaps perfection can be only found in a machine or computer algorithm. Evolving our biological urges and sexual passions may mean having the strength to adequately come down to earth long enough to meet (and be met) in our most highly desirable qualities as human beings, and though we may not comply by most standards, we are human after all, and we need to be loved….
