THE WEEK AHEAD: JUL 8-14

In the week leading into the July 16th LUNAR ECLIPSE, we’re in for some pretty touchy times. Lots of key transits to fluctuate our moods. However, it isn’t so much the individual events which flavour our experience. What’s interesting is how they all blend together into a rich, earth-jolting cocktail to challenge our notions of safety and security.

HERE ARE THE MAIN TRANSITS OF THE WEEK:

Lunar Moods: Sensitivity growing

The degree of sensitivity to which we are all opening up allows us to look at life in profound new ways. This isn’t necessarily easy, since many of us are socially trained to block certain emotions. Even the toughest, most cynical and insensitive among us are now prone to actually ‘feeling’ something. There’s no telling how this will play out, but to say that the Lunar Eclipse “will be emotionally confronting” might be the understatement of a lifetime.

The main thing to stay aware of at all times is that the MOON (our unconscious), which rules the autonomic elements in both our environment and our nervous systems will be most influential. Her feeting transits, which are too many to list here since she moves so rapidly, will continue to dominate our moods and whims, since she rules the constellation of CANCER.
Currently both the SUN and VENUS are transiting through this sign, so key themes around establishing some domestic routine, nourishing our stomachs, as well as our hearts, and finding a sweet spot that we can call home and people to count on become primal instinctive choices.

  • OBSERVE HOW YOU ARE UNCONSCIOUSLY TRYING TO CATER TO THESE NEEDS. HOW DO YOU CHOOSE?
  • SEE HOW EASILY DISTRESSED AND FRUSTRATED YOU ARE BECOMING WHEN YOUR SECURITY FEELS THREATENED
  • NOTICE HOW PRONE YOU ARE TO EXTREME REACTIONS, FROM ONE MOMENT TO THE NEXT

These concerns intensify as the week progresses but emotional stresses early in the week can gradually defray the nervous system. Since stress is cumulative, when not adequately released (rest, peace), it builds up to levels which could (just like recent earthquakes) suddenly erupt into wild, histrionic scenes which threaten to displace and disturb our lives.

Anyway, we are talking about emotions, which are not only complicated, but as i mentioned earlier quite foreign to many of us. It’s impossible to predict what will happen and where, but we can try to be mindful of stress points, and try to alleviate them (or avoid altogether) as we go.

MERCURY RETROGRADE: Looking back…

As we may be aware, we have just entered the MERCURY retrograde period (Jul 7-31), the second of three retrogrades this year. Mercury will spend half of this period in Leo before returning to Cancer on July 19, joining the SUN (21) and VENUS (25). Mercury rules our mental processes, which during the retro period become introverted and subjectified to allow us to reflect on what has just been happening and see where we took some careless steps.

Our thoughts literally turn inwards, revealing the consequences of inattention to detail, wrongful assumptions as well as unravelling faulty processes in our communication and daily conveyance of things.

Often the negative or disowned aspects of our thoughts becomes exposed. We start to see where we have left important tasks in our mundane life for ‘someone else to handle’, or where we have overlooked or ‘fudged our way through’, thrown caution to the wind, hoping that things will ‘sort themselves out’ rather than actively attending to them. Now will be the time to make reparations, or face the consequences of our neglect.

Revolting backlash:

MERCURY in Leo currently stands in near conjunction to MARS (Since mid-June), and as he stations also short of a square to URANUS in Taurus. The building and destroying of important connections, as well as the stimulating, often combative way of communicating with those around us has provoked some new, original, surprisingly unique ways of argument.

Nervous mental energy ignites fiery impulses in the body, and our autonomic nervous system – our ‘fight or flight mechanisms’ – are on high alert and low threshold. This is especially so around issues of maintaining our personal sovereignty and independence where money matters are concerned. It is a time where pent up mental energy is becoming released through sudden explosive arguments and even accidents.

Whether for good or ill, there is an obstinate need to defend our unique values, and our financial independence (or lack thereof). This will be the main theme through URANUS’ 7-year shuttling through the most fixed constellation of Taurus.

Mercury’s Rx back out of Leo asks to see see that we make amends on any discrepancies and errors made in our connections since it entered the retro shadow (June 20), or sever ties and make new contracts and agreements. With MARS set to square URANUS this week ( the first real square since Uranus ingressed to Taurus in March), the urge for independence runs the risk of losing security and the comforts of all we have acquired.

For now, this is a matter of integrity and if in any way we have allowed ourselves – our spirit – to become stifled or cramped with our obsession to identify with physical attachments, dependencies and alliances, then we mustn’t be surprised if things suddenly burst into revolt, break away in haste and fury.

Tuesday’s T square at QUARTER MOON: Live cross

Moods vacillate and temperaments switch considerably after the Quarter Moon’s T-Square to the SUN/SATURN opposition. That’s how fickle our emotions are. We especially don’t like being judged – it seems harsh and uncalled for, and tempers are short right now. We take a deeper look at this here, on the Cosmic Bus….

Into the weekend…

By mid-week, the Libra Moon’s diplomacy – the inner need to ‘keep things nice’ – takes a turn as soon as the Moon hits Scorpio (Wednesday). Our feelings become hypersensitive, and here, at the early degrees Luna’s fleeting opposition to Uranus in Taurus forces us to suddenly disassociate, mostly for our own protection, especially from those who come off as either too aggressive and insensitive to all that we stand for.

The Scorpio Moon then makes a Grand Kite formation to SUN/NEPTUNE/SATURN makes an attempt to mediate, to ameliorate any thoughts or actions which have come off as too harsh or offensive. Much kindness and compassion is necessary to understand that sometimes, by chance, impulse, poor-timing or over-familiarity we say or do things that come off as offensive, even towards those whom we consider our closest allies. Towards those we regard as enemies (and they exist, even among the ranks), the gloves come off entirely. We get the sense that others are trying to dominate over us and that just doesn’t sit well. URANUS is a most disruptive influence, and whether we accept or deny others’ awakening ‘newsflashes’, we often don’t know how to handle insights that come off as ‘too personal’. Anything that threatens to mess with our precious constitution feels like an attack upon our sovereignty.

Tempers flare, and wars may suddenly erupt out of nowhere.

The JUPITER/NEPTUNE square, now about to be revisited by a retrograding Mercury at their midpoint (peaks on July 16) screams of hypocrisy, and by the end of the week the tender Cancer SUN now opposes the insidious PLUTO, posing all kinds of problems and challenges in our interpersonal relationships, both local and global, triggering the most unconscious expression of Pluto’s chthonic, corrosive energy. Without a deeper understanding and a willingness to make inner adjustments, our most compulsive tendencies escalate into highly aggressive and extremist-type behaviour. Impossibly defensive scenarios and wild resistances to those determined to keep control see them respond with sledgehammer strikes in order to achieve their objectives.

Those who hate to feel unsure of their ground or realise how hopeless they are to influence circumstances in their favour – especially those who claim to be in a position of power – wil resort to subversive and manipulative means in order to resist authority.

This sets the scene for next week, when Tuesday’s Lunar eclipse in Capricorn delivers yet more low-flying curveballs, since it only aggravates our moods to the extreme. We generally don’t agree when others, particularly organisations who insist on changing the world to suit their agenda, mandate that we should change our lives in order to align with how they think things should be.

In truth, virtually everyone else is operating on the same level, whether in small or large ways, since everyone now seems to have their own cure-all remedy for all the world’s ills. Those who try to dictate to others by forceful expression may easily fail to get the kind of support and co-operation they desire, especially if they come off like an inflexible tyrant and final arbiter of our fate.

Mostly invisible, occasionally they rear their ugly heads to show us who they really are. It shows that dominating and forceful personalities who usually insist on having their own way, and are rarely, if ever, wrong are very much in need of counselling, or at least stopping from getting too out of control. Hence, the Lunar Eclipse leads us into a period of serious relationship conflicts, which then leads to massive breakups and defects from any body/corporation where people cannot abide to having their creative power curtailed or managed. What remains are the pliant ‘followers’ of the regime, those who choose to play along with the ‘leader’ in sycophantic acquiescence or plain ignorance to the fate as expendable fuel to their power.

I will leave it there, and sorry to end it on a negative note, but without immense pressure and extreme crisis, nothing can seriously transform for us. We all agree that our systems of ‘dishing it out’ to those who ‘must take it’ are tending towards the extreme, and our blessed inner nature, or spirit, can only endure so much before it either buckles or reacts in similarly extreme ways.

Blessings, and may you have and amazing week xx
