“SUBLIMATING THE EGO INTO ART” Learning the Art of Kindness, with MARS/NEPTUNE

[art: Sarah Aha]

We are either aware or blind that the challenges we face now are trying to force an evolutionary shift. Without this awareness, squares, such as the current ones between PLUTO/ERIS, SATURN/URANUS, or MARS/NEPTUNE, as well as the impending SUN/VENUS to PLUTO, tend to bring out the worst in each planet.

We don’t want to descend into the lower operation of any planetary archetype. In the case of the outer, heavier planetary squares, we have seen the most dreadful manifestations of each, which we have covered extensively over the past two years or so. As the eclipses approach, things only intensify, pushing us to rise above or be torn asunder.

In the case of MARS, now slowing to retrograde around 90º to NEPTUNE, we must now endure the noxious tensions of an otherwise fleeting square for weeks rather than days. It is no accident that we are forced to overcome the urge to lower ourselves when asserting ourselves, whether in defence or offence for or against the more subtle, sometimes perplexing aspects of life.

The evolutionary objective here is to learn to absorb the MARS (masculine) snipes upon our sensitivities. NEPTUNE seeks to sublimate and refine, not necessarily annihilate, our ego. It does this by elevating our minds to the realms of the imagination. It hurts when others try to weaken us, put us down, or take away something we desire to be or have. Our attachment to adverse outcomes is merely an ego illusion. We must not collapse into a bundle of tears because people don’t respect our sensitivities. We are not easy prey, victims of anyone’s cynical derision, because we do not wish to fight a dirty war. Nor must we descend into cynicism ourselves.

It’s so easy under these transits to lose faith and become lost in all of the world’s politics. This is why the arts are essential. They help to sublimate our frustration and anger into something beautiful. Freud described the process of sublimation as a virtuous defence mechanism because, through our artistic endeavours, we maintain our highest connection to our humanity.

It is wise to look to the masters for some inspiration, as well as to refine your own mastery, however you express beauty and art. In any conflict, persist with kindness, for it is an art form of the highest kind. Persist as long as you can, before surrendering, with grace and humility.
