It’s Full Moon time again where, at the height of the lunation cycle, emotions run high, causing all kinds of conflict. Full Moons are times of culmination. Blessed by the complete light of both Sun and Moon, these illuminated days and nights in our lunar calendar are times when we will make all important decisions. Since the luminary energies are diametrically opposite, we may choose to capitulate, dissent, or even bring an end to matters, especially if they have been particularly troubling.
When the Moon is in Aries, emotions are raw, instincts are primitive and direct, moods fiery and impulsive and forceful enough to influence our conscious will. An irrepressible hastiness or rashness permeates the collective atmosphere, and ordinary, everyday folks are prone to react without thinking. This stands in contrast to the Sun in airy Libra, who tends to overthink and never decide on any one direct action.
One might expect that a Mars-ruled Aries Moon would lead to arguments, protestations and wars, especially in conjunction to Eris, the snubbed sister of Mars who led the world into strife and discord. Yet Mars is in his sign of detriment in Libra, effectively dampened in his strike, so there is a pervading hesitancy about taking any action at all. This wait-and-see reluctance is only augmented by the Libra Sun, who in his fall, is at his most indecisive, ceding his sovereign authority by obliging or pandering to the will of others.
Most critical here, with Pluto T-squaring this lunation from the austerely judgemental Capricorn. Pluto, ruler of the underworld, seems to be holding this entire lunation under full control using his dark, subversive means. Hence any conflict we are facing under this lunation is more likely to be raging deep inside, psychologically suppressed from coming to the surface in any healthy way, which is a concern, since past traumas, abuses and destructive patterns of behaviour are likely to be triggered. For healing to occur, there must be some acknowledgement that there is a problem, and Pluto here holds everyone under his hypnotic spell of secrecy and powerful manipulation.
Deep down in the psyche, raging battles become so fierce and intense that they either crush our desires and passions or operate at the crudest levels, ready to erupt like a volcano, exploding into cruel and destructive behaviours.
By the time the Aries Moon reaches the full height of culmination, these raw, reactive emotions are shoved down, banished into the pits of our unconscious. Terrified of expressing our natural, most atavistic instincts lest others judge us for not being ‘civilised’ or ‘spiritually aware’ or ‘mature’ enough, we feel trapped by a sense of guilt and shame. Social pressure is coming from everywhere, especially the Jupiter and Saturn in the group-minded Aquarius, Pluto in Capricorn’s subversive patriarchal power, partners and consults in Libra. Our own conscience tells us we can no longer stomach the hypocrisy of our being. Something is not sitting well and we become ready to explode at the slightest provocation or grievance.
As we can see, Pluto in Capricorn holds this whole lunation to ransom. The Libra/Aries polarity is about maintaining our ability to perceive and evaluate alternatives before acting, determining which of many possibilities is most viable, working in moderation, not in haste, considering how other people are involved and demonstrating fairness and a willingness to cooperate with them. Pluto squaring both Sun/Mars in Libra and the Moon/Eris in Aries is determined to accomplish his own patriarchal, state or corporate agenda.
For many years now he has been working to restructure the basic structure of society, a program now creating enormous inner turmoil for both luminaries (Sun and Moon) and their war-like siblings (Mars and Eris). As light is being shed, we both see and sense a ruthless design to satisfy Pluto’s hidden urge to survive and dominate at any cost. For the sake of social status, corporate or political power, for wealth and profit, career advancement, job prestige and execution or just plain utter greed, we become enslaved by un underlying sexual and material obsession that threatens to override any hope for harmony and peace.
The Libran awareness, which teaches us that we can compromise or cooperate yet still retain our Aries independence; that we can still engage in social activities yet still satisfy our most urgent desires, seems hijacked here. Those possessed by Pluto’s spell seem hell-bent to wreak vengeance upon those they feel may harm them—dominating and exploiting anyone who dares and cannot stand up to their power. The dark triad, now pervading the collective like some parasitic mind-virus, has hypnotised our keen perceptiveness of others to manipulate them into satisfying our most base and insidious needs for domination and supreme power.
The laws we uphold and commitments we make to each other to liberate the flow of energy, allowing a bilateral opportunity for increased motivation and freedom of action, are being overcome and held to ransom by Pluto’s dark forces. When every experience must be intense and transforming, every action motivated by a do-or-die attitude to life, we become extremists in the truest sense. We can neither accept others nor ourselves because we view the world through black and white lenses. When judgment becomes harsh and intolerant, we are at peril of breaking into psychosis.
How do we form bonds according to our deepest inclinations, where we seem more decidedly self-directed – not scattered or divided from others, but instead united by the greater Self at the centre of our being? How do we harness and channel those powerful Plutonian energies, sit at peace with the darkness that lurks at our core without allowing it to subdue or disfigure our primordial integrity?
This lunation has the potential to teach us all to live by higher laws and to form loving, enduring relationships. When we allow the demons that rage within to take over, we feel powerless in controlling ourselves. We see ourselves acting compulsively to control, exploit or shut out those who do not conform to our wishes or our perceptions of reality. Our attempt to wield power over others must be contained, forced or compelled to undergo drastic changes. Crises happen upon us when we do not rise to the challenge ourselves.
Discovering, accessing and accepting those primal forces enables us to draw from an inexhaustible reserve of energy and personal power to cope with major crises. We can start with regenerating our depleted and discouraged selves and begin to get involved with total commitment in an activity, cause or relationship that warrants and commands our total energetic investment.
AT THIS POWERFUL MOMENT,
FEEL THE PULL TO END AN OLD, ARCHAIC CONSTRUCT.
IT IS TIME TO RELEASE FROM THE HYPNOTIC SPELL OF DARK, CORROSIVE PATRILINEAL PATTERNS,
CONTRACTS OF DOMINATION AND GOVERNANCE OVER OTHERS THAT NO LONGER SERVE
CAN YOU SEE IT?
SOMETHING WONDERFUL IS WAITING FOR YOU
IF YOU CAN LIBERATE YOURSELF FROM THE DYNAMICS OF CONTROL
AND STEP INTO LIVING DEEPLY AND INTENSELY,
ABLE TO RELAX AND ENJOY SIMPLE, QUIET PLEASURES.
You will soon die and be reborn. While this experience will tear you apart, it will also strengthen you, fusing you into a whole new being, empowering you, again and again, to be revitalised by the healing energies within you.
Blessings, and may you have an amazing Full Moon xx
