Feb. 16 NOTHING LASTS FOREVER

Everything we shape or cling to; every attachment, every form, is, at best, temporary—a construct that reality ultimately rejects. It might serve a quick, specific purpose, but only when it aligns with a broader framework of reasoning.

Meanwhile, raw, untamed Spirit threads through structures; closed, fixed frameworks; unfazed by contradictions. It’s a restless, relentless force, that sees no problem exploiting the system to pursue goals beyond it.

Yet it fools itself: to operate that way, it must employ a built-in method of self-deception: to pull off its objectives, it binds fragments of the Self onto transient forms, like a master puppeteer pulling on taut strings here and there. This manipulation of matter may achieve results, but it also reveals the illusions behind such control, forcing the Spirit to finally succumb to the limitations it once defied.

It works for a while, but remember—everything is fleeting.

The final Jupiter/Saturn square (June 15) WILL NOT occur in mutable signs…

The image is a rooftop shot taken on the McAlpin Hotel in New York city around 18 March 1913. I sourced it from historical archives documenting the Blackfeet delegation’s visit—a carefully staged exhibition meant to captivate the urban public.

At that time, the McAlpin was one of the tallest buildings, offering a commanding view of a city still grappling with the clash between old-world traditions and modern ambition.

I chose it to illustrate my “NOTHING LASTS FOREVER” text because i feel it shows how we (as a species) construct impressive, yet transient, frameworks—whether physical (like towering buildings) or social (like flashy, propaganda-ish exhibitions which try to push a particular narrative). They seem solid (in their moment), but eventually reveal themselves as impermanent shells, full of spectacle yet hollowed out by time.

It’s worth noting, to those who prefer me to spell things out here, that today’s America, and the broader extension, the entire Western world, which once anchored its identity/security to the US hegemony, is witnessing a similar collapse of long-assumed certainties.

In the post-9/11, post-COVID landscape the monster blob of US supremacy has all but totally eroded illusions of unshakeable power and security. Much like those staged roof scenes over a century ago, it’s a symbol that no matter how sprawling the dominance and how grand the façade, it’s all rather temporary in the greater scheme. Empires, elaborate intersubjective constructs—be they united princpalites or “states”, networked buildings, policies, or cultural mythologies—all rise and fall through the ages, leaving us to contend with the raw, untamed Spirit that remains once the scaffolding collapses.

MORAL: The grand edifices of our past, both literal and ideological, must ultimately give way to nature’s cosmobiological realities. Just like our own human forms, the structures we once relied on to preserve a sense of permanence and legacy are as ephemeral as the staged rooftop moments, such as those in NYC…
