Dec. 20 “The Truth about Authenticity”

THE THING ABOUT ‘TRUTH’

There’s only one “truth”. Those who align with “your truth” are at least misguided.

There’s only one truth, objectively. People who align with “your truth” are at least reinforcing the delicate structure of your subjectively bolstered worldview. They willingly meander through the psychological terrain that you’ve mapped out, pliantly nodding along to the comforting notion that one’s personal narrative is carved from something steadfast and absolute. This is a belief. In such alignment, they help subdue intellectual tension; by not questioning you, no longer must you face the dreadful solitude of your unverified convictions. And yet, this chorus of agreement does not magically warp the single, immutable truth into myriad acceptable versions—it cannot, no matter how loudly the crowd chants. Others’ alignment merely mirrors back your own flagrant assumptions, for a mere moment granting you a shared but ultimately futile refuge from objective reality’s silent, implacable presence.

Don’t kid yourself. In the end, only truth remains impervious.

…AND THEN THERE’S ‘AUTHENTICITY’

The Sadge war cry of “let me be me” could, on the surface, seem to be a noble plea for personal freedom, yet under the illusory currents of Neptune in Pisces (2011–2026), it has metastasised into a cunning shield for moral evasion, selfish indulgence, and the fracturing of once lucid, authentic truth.

Consider “authenticity” as a fundamentally Sagittarian ideal—something (like an arrow, aiming for high moral integrity) meant to be straightforward, genuine, unbridled and uncompromised. Under favourable circumstances, it represents the capacity to stand firmly in one’s truth without artifice or pretence.

However, much like truth itself, authenticity is not immune to distortions and permutations. With Neptune in Pisces forming challenging squares to Sagittarius, what might have once resembled a coherent beam of honest selfhood has splintered into manifold hues, a myriad of colours, splintering through Neptune’s refracting prism, each claiming to be the original, the “real deal”. In such a climate, it’s become increasingly difficult to distinguish the truly authentic from the cleverly simulated.

This wave of distortions has not only blurred the boundaries between what is truly authentic and what is merely masquerading as such, but also enabled those who wield “authenticity” as a shield to dodge accountability. Classic unintegrated Sadge.

This wave of confusion is readily apparent in the familiar refrain, “let me be me”. At first glance, this rallying cry suggests a reasonable plea for personal freedom and honest self-expression. Yet, in practice, it comes off as a moral loophole, a flimsy pretext for shirking accountability and insulating oneself from necessary criticism and deeper critique.

When authenticity is elevated to the status of an unassailable virtue, it can become a shield for pig-headed stubbornness, a justification for a raft of problematic behaviours, and a refusal to engage in any attempts to restore balance or consider the rights and needs of others. In this environment, after 13-14 years of constant mutation, authenticity is no longer a virtuous principle but a ruse, a banner under which individuals may dismiss ethical responsibility, suppress or defy introspection, and prioritise the most bizarre personal desires at the expense of collective well-being.

Ultimately, the fiery Sagittarian concept of “authenticity”, or “truth”, once associated with untrammelled honest illumination in an unchecked or unregulated climate, risks becoming a fractured spectrum of competing claims. Without rigorous self-examination and a willingness to confront the ethical implications of one’s “true nature,” authenticity can degenerate into a permissive excuse for chaos. Instead of serving as a guiding light towards higher moral integrity, it becomes a refuge for moral evasion—enabling individuals to elevate their most degenerative and pathetic personal impulses above communal harmony and ethical accountability…
