If rational argument doesn’t cancel the rambunctious dogma and ignorant opinions of others, and public opinion can not curb or contain them, then any act of suppression would certainly be unwise.
In the next few weeks, we may claim the right to suppress the assertions of others, even by force if necessary, but it may just as easily turn out that they’re not prepared to meet us on any grounds of rational argument, instead get fiercely rowdy, denounce any efforts to be reasonable; convince their followers to not listen to reason either, maintaining it’s ambiguous or deceitful, incite them to retort to any argument using their fists or guns.
