THE WEEK AHEAD: Oct 21-27

This week, the Sun sings out his last hurrah in Libra and my, did we see ourselves engaging in some pretty nifty political positioning over this past month!

As Sol ingresses into Scorpio, joining Mercury, Venus and Pallas Athena, he leaves only Mars behind to face the grim Saturn/Pluto square on his own, down at the South Node end.

next Monday’s Full Moon

Transiting through Libra, planets filled the cosmic airwaves with lots of voluntary opinions and unsolicited “advice”. In Scorpio, these will evolve into executive-style action. Hence, any lingering double-edged rhetoric, doubts and indecisions come to a head this week. In the build-up to next Monday’s Scorpio New Moon, Mars squares Saturn/Nodes and we face consequences for any laziness and inaction. Both in politics and in our most significant affairs with others, this will be an intense and frighteningly unstable week due to the lunation’s almost exact opposition to Uranus in Taurus.

Mercury also slows, turning retrograde in the following week. We get the feeling that nothing is breezy and light these days. Even the most casual of thoughts, words or actions will be processed with the utmost level of intensity and seriousness. We must be aware of our propensity to suddenly withdraw or irredeemably incinerate one another with extremely staunch, indignant reactions…

The Sun, who engenders and enlivens all our spirits with conscious intent is currently helping us to see things from both sides. In Libra, we make a deliberate, calculated effort to engage, meet others halfway. But as he rises before Mercury and Venus, the aftertaste of agreeable contact leaves a bittersweet bite, and we sense that any efforts to relate may just be contrived to gain favour and besides, we are left unsure if we actually agree with others after all.

We could have the most constructively engaging discussions, connect on so many topics, feel some tremendous synergy in just the way we do things, observe that we live mutually inspiring lives, even be secretly attracted to one another… and then a misfired opinion over something like climate, political leanings, transgender, veganism, religion, whatevertf… comes out somehow, and it’s a life-long dealbreaker.

Sure, the Sun’s gotta go through PC Libra once every so often (once a year, to be precise). Concerns about fairness and fears about feeding into negative stereotypes creates an atmosphere in which people learn to consciously tiptoe around issues and one another. This kind of dynamic is the breeding ground of misunderstanding, conflict and mistrust, corroding both individual relationships and social cohesion. The discreetly judgemental Libra Sun will take all his judgmentalness into the ruthlessly executive waters of Scorpio, where he will brood and stew about said things. Here, he will work up a venom that he intends to wilfully inject back into those who have expired their value, striking exactitude on all things he considers wrong.

We can see that the Sun did not fare well after his square to the South Node Saturn/Pluto. Divisiveness, polarisation, identity abrasions, self-doubt and self-limiting behaviour, suspicion and outright dissociation or withdrawal have become the order of the day. In Scorpio, the unchecked Sun will take these to the brooding edge, and as the feeble Mars in Libra is left alone to deal with these misgivings against the judicious supremacy of Saturn in Capricorn. Don’t be surprised if you are faced with situations so oppressive that you don’t know how or whether to act, except with all-out war.

The war is not only aimless but if you look deeper, you will see it’s only with yourself.

When our actions and impulses are likely to be at odds with current social standards, aggressive tendencies will seem inappropriate and mistimed. Unable to act in harmony with events around us, a series of unfortunate events, which leave us irritated and frustrated with everyone and everything, creates a charge that can be very socially unpleasant. Again, the Scorpio Sun is likely to do some drastic things. The impending opposition to Uranus at New Moon produces some erratic internal and external behaviour, which can lead to some overtly dramatic and drastic changes, both in behaviour and lifestyle.

How to deal with this tense, potentially dangerously charged dynamic?

  1. Chill.
If you should experience even the slightest threat to your identity, your first response will be a negative emotion such as anger or contempt. If you react by casting blame and judgment, this only incites defensiveness in others. Take a step back. Breathe deeply, even a few moments away from the point of conflict, identifying your feelings and considering your responses more effectively.
  2. Reconnect.
When you experience a judgement on your thoughts and beliefs about yourself – an identity abrasion – your first impulse may be to turn inward, to try to justify, explain, and defend your position. Try to resist this impulse to feel slighted. Focus outward, on goals that are bigger than you, such as how you can contribute to greater social ideals, how you can contribute constructively to a discussion, task, relationship or social mission.

Creating greater objectives will help you reconnect with others by infusing your intention with meaning. Meaningful intentions will remind you of what is at stake in any given situation, giving you a reason to reengage with others even if you feel threatened. Disconnection will only drive a wedge between you and the outer world, and in the current climate (of change), will be stored as bitterness and resentment. This seemingly unavoidable reaction is to be avoided.

Make it your intention to learn rather than scorn. Step outside your need to be right. Use the Libra Mars to motivate you to seek to understand rather than swing toward judgements about the other person. The haul of Scorpio planets will work to provide a deeper understanding of how to connect with the other’s humanistic psychology. This sympathetic ‘knowing’ about one another’s identity pains and vulnerabilities can provide a wonderful impetus towards developing mutually beneficial solutions.
  3. Check yourself.
As challenging as this is, questioning your own position means taking risks by pitting yourself into contrast with others, precisely when you feel most inclined to protect yourself by withdrawing from a perceived or actual threat.

Ask yourself such questions as, “What am I missing about myself here? How did I betray my weakness in my desire to have my opinions be proven right?” If you cannot agree with someone, does it mean that at least one of you is distorting their view of reality? Does something need further looking into?

Libra’s need to be loved and approved of often amounts to a degree of narcissism which can be easily rubbed the wrong way. Progressed over to Scorpio’s extreme overestimation of themselves, misunderstandings over identity can easily turn nasty.

When we choose to take risks by connecting with one another, we consciously short-circuit defensive identity-related issues, enabling the transformative/alchemical process to take place.

Mars’ reaction to be offended or feel threatened in an interaction provides important clues that inquiry is necessary. Checking yourself means dropping the protective scripts, listening to and identifying which aspects of your self-image feel threatened, being open to feedback which may hurt to hear, and seeing what you can learn about yourself. Why else would you feel so triggered??
  4. Get Help
Sometimes, the other person may just have to be a trained specialist who knows how to listen and guide you to see the real issue at play. If you only seek help from the wrong kind of people, either seeing those who challenge your point of view as threats and those who reinforce it as allies, then you’re probably going to learn nothing.

No point in having a whole bunch of ‘followers’ who pliantly like everything you say or do, and engaging in insane arguments (or Twitter wars) with those who dare to question your intent.
  5. Transform your Attitude
Yep, it always comes to this. Turning those ego-defences or identity abrasions into opportunities to learn more about yourself gives you a chance to radically shift your way of thinking about yourself, your situations, and others.

We are not born with self-awareness. We become our Solar selves by continuously allowing light to be shed upon our identity, mindful not to react with ignorance or fear to knowing ourselves. As we systematically reflect upon and analyse behavioural patterns which carry dissatisfaction in our lives, we come closer to our truth. Our perceptions are not our truth. Our perceptions must be processed into truth through meditation and self-reflection. We can only learn to break out of negative patterns.

Yes, humanity is transforming. It’s ironic how suddenly there is a wide raft of issues that many, in ignorance and in light, are choosing to identify with. The more we identify with the outer, the greater the propensity to pain, triggering of the ego and reaction into wars. It is a dangerous time because the threats seem more impactful, the loss more gruesome and final. Sure, these are end days.

The fundamental shift is away from a mindset that dictates: “You must change or else,” to one that asks: “What can I change?” Huge leaps in consciousness abound, and we will see them develop most rapidly.

When we accept judgements to our identity (or self-image) as an attempt to control us or as a condemnatory criticism of everything we are about; when we get angry and withdraw, this only fuels our anxiety. Our reactions then fuel our anger and frustration. We end up saying and doing things which are unfortunate and lead us into greater despair. The cycle becomes vicious, and in true Scorpio sense, becomes ultimately miserable and self-destructive.

As Mercury in Scorpio slows to 27°♏38’℞ (Oct 31), he deepens our perceptions. This retrograde period will be the most intense that we as humans will have ever experienced. The next two lunations will reveal why and how. In lead-up, I have prepared a special Mercury Retrograde report, as well as horoscope messages as guidance for each sign on how to navigate through this process.

I expect that you are appreciating these, as well as my live, lunation reports (#CosmicBus). This week we’ll be talking about the phenomenal New Moon, whose opposition to Uranus is a real game-changer in just about every aspect of how we choose to see the world.
