THE WEEK AHEAD: Sep 09-15

The blessed Sun has crossed over the halfway point in his illuminating journey through mutable/earth Virgo, bringing with him a stellium of planets as his own, personal ‘service crew’. By now, we get a certain sense that at least somebody’s trying to mop up and ‘make things great again’. In this we are eager to lend a hand, perhaps because we realise what a massive mess there is for one to attempt to tidy on his own. Yes, it’s definitely cosmic clean-up time, and whether we wish to admit it or are in total denial, we can see the screws tightening in and minor adjustments constantly going on, even in a world that seems to be falling apart at the seams.

All we want is some semblance of order and a reasonable grip on ‘reality’, and yet, the universe persists in hurling out the chaos and the mayhem our way. Again this week, thanks to the ‘Neptune-in-Pisces factor’ the chaos and disarray continues all around, and we must stay mindful to tend to what requires our urgent attention. By Saturday’s Full Moon, we realise the problem may be a lot more personal than we could ever imagine:

Yes life’s journey requires some maintenance. But as we see, this requires much more. As the Virgo Sun and Mars run contra to this year’s final Jupiter/Neptune square, we see just how much we have let things slide – not just in the maintenance of life’s material aspects but in our pursuit of purpose and happiness. Perhaps an over-obsession with the pursuit of all those things has consequently allowed our relationship to truth diminish considerably.

Virgo does one thing well: She examines, analyses and discerns based on tangible, measurable, physically quantifiable evidence. Similar to Gemini, who harps on collecting and exchanging data and information, Virgo is all about how to put all that info into practice, see it working, or at least work out how to take what she sees and fix it so it works.

As Venus, and then Mercury have already revealed to us over the last week – we have some serious Jupiter/Neptune problems going on. What are those? Well Neptune squaring/opposed any celestial point/planet generally indicates there’s going to be a degree of impressionability and uncertainty in the way that body functions. It’s Neptune’s power of dissolving our focus, then presenting us with a myriad of alternatives. The more vague and confused we become under Neptune’s influence, the greater our susceptibility to delusions and distortions. Since Jupiter rules our laws, ethics, moral standpoints, it is not hard to see why Neptune’s stressful squaring influence on the Jovial Giant has skewed and distorted our attempts to harmonise our lives on the basis of knowing what’s “right & wrong” throughout 2019.

In essence, our morality and belief systems have become a little warped, a little twisted and possibly filled with gaping truth-gaps and loads of happy little hypocrisies. A Jupiter/Neptune square is like the prozac pill of the astral universe: its predicament here on earth extends beyond the manifestations of an opiod crisis, swirling socio-political sea-changes and the slow descent into the warm, but decapacitating quick-sands of climate change.

This ‘fuzzy-logic’ has already become very evident in our relationships, due to our mind-warped wishful ways of thinking and communicating. To find happiness at all we must suspend all disbelief and live like the proverbial blind man, searching around in a black room for a black cat that isn’t there, and finding it.

This week, the highly discerning Virgo Sun, backed by his fiercely Gestapoid lieutenant, Mars, reveal and stir conflict wherever any cognitive biases – deviations from rationality in judgment – exist in our relationships. Disagreements over basic facts and analytical interpretations of data and how they have been used to create ‘magical effects’ come into serious question. We come to critically realise some things, but question too whether it’s too late to fix anything.

Whether it is the pervading rise of social media and massive changes to the way news & information has been disseminated into our societies which has resulted in the blurring of lines between opinion and fact; whether it is our demands on an archaic, anachronistic educational system, which limits its capacity to keep us updated with changes in the information ecosystem; whether it is the political and socio-religious polarisation which has lead to the extruded disparity of our opinions… we are certainly left in a quandary over who is right and wrong, and whether to trust or believe a word of ‘truth’ any more, regardless of who it comes from.

We live in times where personal experience over facts is preferred. We trust nothing because we see how placing blind faith has deteriorated trust in respected sources of information. This is happening for a reason, but why? For what reason do we choose to not believe a thing unless we have experienced it for ourselves? Why is it that we have suspended the credibility of teachers, preachers, storytellers, historians, journalists, parents and governors? Even scientists…??

Is it perhaps because we have lost faith, because what we are told bears little semblance to what we see, or that it fails to comply with what we wish to see? And is it not often obvious that on closer scrutiny our ‘experts’ appear to be as clueless and confused about the truth as we are; as disengaged from the integrity of their own word; as inconsistent and incapable of helping themselves as much they purport to help us? Perhaps it’s all of that. Or none of that at all – just our minds playing tricks with the light. One thing is certain: when Jupiter squares Neptune, things can sound true for a moment but be revealed to be hocus-pocus the next.

Is it any “coincidence” then, that in the closing months of this intense Saturn/Pluto climate, we are quandaried by a frenzied state of ‘conspiracy zeitgeist’? As Saturn and Pluto station to go direct in the next two weeks, we see the effects of this erosion of civil discourse, this political paralysis, these gender/ race/ creed alienations, this complete disengagement from political, legal, academic and religious institutions as the spiritual essence that now serves to undermine all power structures. It is this complete uncertainty, confusion, distrust and apathy towards local and foreign beliefs and policies which pushes us more and more towards the edge. There, we remain obtusely divided on just about everything, and the more we become polarised, the harder it becomes to be objective.

By this weekend, the Pisces Moon (conjunct Neptune) becomes Full, opposing the Virgo Sun and his minions. It’s Mind versus Soul; Reality vs Unreality; Logic & Rationality over Psychic Intuition. Who wins??

It builds to be an immensely challenging time for us – a time when confronting reality is critical. We have to accept the truth about what’s going on, honestly and with humility before a more workable balance in our relationships can emerge – one in which our practical desires become valued but less dominant and threatening, and one in which the emotional and spiritual dimensions are also valued but better integrated and explored.
