THE WEEK AHEAD: 23-29

With Sol’s ingress into Libra, the SEPTEMBER EQUINOX inaugurates us into the official half-way mark of the Sun’s annual journey through the constellations. Days now become either shorter (NH) or longer (SH) and thus the psychology of all conscious beings on this planet gradually shifts to adjust to the changing of the seasons by launching us into the more ‘social’ constellations of the zodiac belt.

Astrologically, the Sun’s Ingress into Libra marks a noticeable shift towards a more socially aware mindset. Our conscious attention flows into achieving a greater sense of order, balance and harmony with our most significantly intimate relationships and partnerships.

We will try to be more pleasant, cooperative and agreeable with those in our immediate range, seeking peaceful outcomes and initiating some more socially acceptable behaviour between us. Our intimate affairs are also prone to escalate into emotionally fierce disagreements and angry upsets, even wars wherever our diplomatic skills fail to establish the so-desired “peaceful outcome”. Those equipped with the intelligence to navigate conflicts and challenging situations with a sense of empathy and compassion, emotional intelligence, tact and a knack for conflict resolution will triumph. Whilst these are all traits naturally inherent to the Libran animal, we are all capable of understanding and learning much about how best to get along with those who matter over the next month.

Much of our success to make peace depends on how well we can tune into the collective mindset; the ‘zeitgeist’ currently operating in our world.

This year’s Solar transits through Libra are fraught with considerable tension, since the cardinal/air influenced Sun faces some difficult squares to the Capricorn Saturn/Nodes around the occulting First Quarter Moon (Oct 5-7) and then T-squaring with Pluto at the Aries Full Moon (Oct 13-15). Diplomatic efforts are made increasingly more challenging once the inflammatory Mars enters Libra (Oct 4) and ruler Venus exits Libra to enter Scorpio (Oct 8), when all three (☉,♀, ♂) will be in their signs of detriment or fall.

Contextually, this is a most difficult time in our social affairs, both personally and globally, since Saturn this week again conjuncts the harshly cynical, perhaps even cruel, Capricorn South Node. The square from Venus makes this ever so unkind, and many will be left feeling disconnected from the mainstream of social activity, especially if unwilling or incapable of facing up to the pressures and responsibilities of ‘getting along’.

In fact, this can be extremely constricting for all of us, putting many out of sync with prevailing cultural attitudes. Over the past six months of this sustained Saturn/South Node conjunction, an increasing sensation of socially imposed isolation/separation has pushed many of us into the fringes of involuntary social austerity.

Saturn’s psychologically inhibiting barriers upon our need for sociability with those around us is here to teach us that unless we learn to play along with the ideas and methods of a structured society, we best be ‘sent to our rooms’. Naturally, where the South Node is involved, we feel that playing along to long-expired, defunct and antiquated structures is not going to work out. As such, we have learned to be on our own, make proper use of our alone time or suffer silently.

One positive note to feeling cut off from others is that we may have learned to discipline ourselves to achieve things which put us in a class all of our own. By disregarding any ineffective or useless external influences, focusing solely on developing our individualistic strengths, and by taking a more meticulous approach to our work, many of us will emerge through this imposed seclusion as experts in some new, albeit obscure field of endeavour.

Of course, some outcomes of this do not always make for the greater social benefit. In some perverse manifestations of this transit – as is possible with the corrupting Pluto in the South Node mix, it produces adversely ambitious creatures, complete aberrations whose dastardly antagonistic conduct seeks to obtain selfish status and power at all costs (see ‘criminal mastermind’).

Whether we are aware, or most oblivious to the chthonic deviations fomenting under the surface through a successive series of lunar occultations to Saturn (Mar-Nov), there is a sinister likelihood that dark forces have been secretly conspiring to soon seize their own, totalitarian control over society – a point that we have been regularly observing and commenting on over the months of recent entries in this forum.

Another major theme this year has been the square between Jupiter and Neptune, now at its last phases of delivering its strangely undermining effects upon our idealised beliefs about how to achieve happiness and social harmony through a sense of social justice and spiritual morality. Whilst Neptune ‘heightens’ and ‘sensitises’ our experience of Jupiter’s governance over ethics and law, it also delivers a delusory, exorbitantly inflated, almost entirely disingenuous display of melodramatic empathy for causes that are not entirely our own, perhaps adopted more for the sake of earning social brownie points for being ‘politically awakened’ or ‘performatively woke’.

[image:: monica carvalho]

At the risk of preaching to the converted, it is important to outline the problematic issues of those currently inhabiting the ‘performatively woke’ camps. I am particularly referring to those who have set their sights on trying to achieve social or cultural objectives of building better, more inclusive, more compassionate societies, I will just say this: that in our effort to aspire to a much more inclusive and compassionate world, our observation at this present point is that society has indeed become more divided on most every argument, be it gender, race, class, creed or religion. This is the down side of the Jupiter/Neptune square.

One may say that these past few months of Saturn/Pluto-on-the-South Node has crystallised factions of every society toward the extreme-minded left or right, or hard liberalism vs hard conservatism. Emerging from this period we are faced with the realities of fundamentally political problems, as posed by the pragmatic utility of trying to integrate this contrived sense wokeness.

If we take a look at the other performative arenas that are, and indeed have been, dominating our society and our conditioning for centuries, such as those of the chauvinistic macho type (the performative ‘patriarch’), or the arena of racial supremacy (the performative genetic purist), we see how much these types have also risen to the fore during this period. In all their varied incarnations along Saturn’s prevailing ‘Status Quo’, these manifestations of performative ‘unwokeness’ all function in similar ways as their ‘woke’ counterparts, insomuch as they impose certain ‘conditions’ upon their constituents, thus enforcing a particular kind of behaviour as the ‘dominant social structure’.

Of course, Saturn’s ‘unwoke’ conditioning is far more deeply entrenched in every society’s structure than any amount of Jupiterian ‘wokeness’ can aspire to be:

For instance, the significant oppositions of Uranus to Jupiter in Libra (2017) sparked a radical new movement towards a kind of liberalism that, fuelled by the very anti-PC Trump inauguration, set the political twitterverse on fire.

This was followed by Jupiter’s entry into the emotionally triggered and vindictive Scorpio (Oct 2017), which brought us the #MeToo movement and the “cancel culture” of Jupiter’s semisquare to Saturn (2018)

However, it is this year’s journey through Jupiter’s sanctimonious domicile, Sagittarius, where over three sustained squares to Neptune, we became impressionably exposed and easily seduced into wholly unrealistic and hypothetical social aspirations about a more cohesive culture. Jupiter’s larger vision for social justice, tinged by Neptune’s very unpractical, dreamishly enthusiastic yearning means that many among us, in their enforced social isolations, have felt wishful enough to readily embrace the half-truths of these performative theaters as their own personal, true values.

So what we are left with is a bunch of ‘wokes’ riding around on their moral high-horses – a hardly sustainable state, highly vulnerable to being exposed as hypocrites against the cold, hard cynicism and close-minded scrutiny of a groundswell of reactive ‘unwokes’. Those who are encrusted into centuries of Saturn’s 3D structural divisions over race, gender, colour, religion, epigenetic supremacy, still trying to follow the respective roles and expectations of their culture’s existing hierarchies, are waiting for Jupiter’s hot air to come down.

Talk about troubles ahead in trying to achieve harmony and peace, seeing the Sun is about to enter Libra – the most PC sign in the zodiac. This spells fundamental danger.

We saw it only last week with the unfortunate exposure of Justin Trudeau – possibly the “wokest” politician of all mankind (or is that “peoplekind”?). Here is the ultimate example of a ‘world leader’ who (bless him) sanctimoniously rode the proud white horse of social justice (native ☿- ♃/♆, 4th house) on all progressive platforms, yet came unravelled when the media published photos of him wearing the racially insensitive ‘blackface’ on several public occasions.

Of course, Trudeau’s “overly-zealous costume efforts” were all before he was officially a ‘woke’ guy, but none the less in this post-MeToo climate, these episodes bring enormous damage to the reputation of this much-admired Capricorn and pin-up boy of ‘wokeness’. As we saw with Nixon (another Capricorn), reputations seldom recover after such a disgraceful scandal on their integrity of character. Although Trudeau’s capacity to grovel to the media, show contrition and immediately apologise publicly may show some merit, citing that it was his sense of ‘privileged upbringing’ and not any endemic racism on his part that caused errors in judgement is unlikely to exonerate him. Even if he survives in the public sense, it’s not likely that his ‘woke-ass’ will ever be allowed to ride the ‘moral high-horse’ again. Worse still, the timing of this spectacle serves as a symbolic end to the whole ‘woke’ charade.

This is the Jupiter/Neptune ‘hypocrisy’ factor. Trudeau’s blackface debacle has exposed the fundamentally flawed nature of the Canadian prime minister – not as an ‘unwoke’ racist per se, but just a guy whose legitimacy to stand unfettered for his social ideals leaves him just looking a bit silly, slight and ineffectual.

Those touched by this Jupiter/Neptune square (12°-19° mutables) will feel most impacted by this transit. Whilst social ideals met with honest, earnest meditation, prayer, psychedelic experiences and quiet contemplation may bring some to a tangibly more rewarding lifestyle, those whose whole agenda was to win brownie points among some ‘cool-hip’ subculture, will suffer the post Ju/Ne indigestions from gorging themselves to full on this gourmet buffet of ‘faux-woke’ consciousness, so to be left feeling empty and fake once the ‘highs’ of passing fads and hysterical group delusions start to dissolve away. This month is a time to come to terms with this.

As we are about to see, the Libra Sun has his work cut out in trying to bring two opposing sides to some agreeance this month – especially at the Full Moon. As usual, the Sun sorts out the wheat from the chaff by further illuminating the ‘truly woke’ and eliminating all pretentiously inauthentic social butterflies by scorching their phoney borrowed wings out of the skies and bringing them down to earth with a thump.

I do hope that you are all treading carefully through this period. We really are heading towards the business end of things now, and although some external events may seem cruel, unkind and wholly unfair to you these days, please remember that the great Sol seeks only to bring true light and divine insight into your being. Understandably, this is best done by relinquishing any pretentious filters and social affectations and expressing yourself as true to your own centre as possible. Only this position affords us the greatest vantage to stay balanced, and create harmony around us at all times.

Blessings, and may you have an amazing week xx
