THE WEEK AHEAD: April 8-14

Two themes run strong throughout this week: one will seem really pleasant – Venus making ‘whoopee’ with Neptune, while the other might come off as a real drag – the Sun squaring ratpack duo Saturn/Pluto at the South Node.

With tender care, both themes could be integrated into a healthy balance of elated wishfulness and hard-nosed implementation, but we must put our minds and hearts into the process of desegregation of interests, for if we are neglectful, lazy or make stupid, hasty decisions, we will surely learn the lessons of placing too much emphasis on whimsical desires and expecting them to work for us, in spite of shoddy, or poor execution.

Venus, exalted in Pisces turns it on with her dreamy love-dives into Neptune ‘whateverness Anything goes here, and it’s likely that a high degree of idealisation is being projected in the spheres of romantic relationships – visions of ‘perfect lovers and partners’ emanating from an overshadowing arising from the unconscious mind.

The Venus sextile to Saturn and Pluto and trine to the Cancer Node provides a sturdy and shrewd ‘reality checkpoint’, making sure there’s enough earthy substance so that our ‘dream lover’ doesn’t just collapse into a crumbling heap of disillusionment should s/he fail to conform to the ‘picture of perfection’ superimposed upon them. Heck… even a square from Jupiter – now stationing to retrograde, doesn’t ruin Venus’ amorous folly, even if it does tend to make things a bit indulgent and careless with responsibilities.

During Jupiter’s retro through Sagittarius – a period of boundless internal expansion (Apr 10-Aug 11), a certain degree of high idealisation may start to take precedence over credible practicality. Since our experiences become subjectified during Jupiter’s retrograde period, our favoured hypotheses on life may become more important than life’s factual everyday experiences. These become blurred into the realm of potent dreams, since Jupiter maintains a square to Neptune, for most of the year, easily turning hypotheses into hypocrisies when we ourselves cannot live up to (or stand by) that which we purport to be “our truth”.

Which brings us to the Aries Sun, now storming into his intention (after the New Moon) to just go, go, go for it. Here we see a challenging story – a tale of restrictions and limitations imposed upon the spirit by inner psychological attitudes, values, beliefs that may prevail due to perceived external pressures. Squares to Saturn/Pluto puts blocks and frustrations in the way forward which are likely to be vexing and confronting to the storming, headstrong Aries Sun. Ram versus old Goat can reverberate a clamour for miles, aggravating personal insecurities and creating all kinds of doubts about capability, potency, personal authority and self-esteem issues.

Little difficulties turn into abrasive and harshly tormenting negativities, especially if the unintegrated negative tendencies of Pluto are allowed to plague our individual conscience. Duty and responsibility can be a nagging bitch when we’re just trying to enjoy ourselves and have some fun in life. The trick here is to be prepared to answer those important calls and take care of pressing business – whatever our intuition is beseeching us to tend to, and do it with a level of composed discipline and command.

Mercury in Pisces is still a little muddle-headed, slowly coming out of his retrograde shadow. A square to Jupiter serves as a warning to spare impulsive judgements and avoid decisions based on gross assumptions and insufficient information. A trine from the Sun to Jupiter provides boundless creative potential, but we must use it wisely if we are to reap the full benefits.

One would agree that this is the perfect time to become engrossed in exploring foreign cultures, extraordinary philosophical concepts and wild, out-of-the-ordinary pursuits. It is a time when grandiose daringness and the will to explore dark, mysterious topics could reap tremendous benefits, if only we tread cautiously and not barge through without some level of awareness of our duties and limitations – particularly if given to fears about maintaining our grip on society’s expectations and subconscious pressures. The Sun’s square to the Nodes indicates that certain reckless expressions and thoughtlessly exposed biases will seem out of phase with the current zeitgeist. Authorities who are ‘behind the times’ may seem to come undone, not just due to enormous public pressure but (with Sun opposing Pallas Athena in Libra) because somebody is likely to have done a lot more homework in how to tackle tactlessness and selfish, primitive displays.

A little meditation and a healthy approach to melding our views and beliefs with what this moment requires: knowing just when to hold back and when to move forward, and not vice versa, is required. Study and practice this directive all through the week and remember, haste makes waste, where a little tact and guile will help you pass any trial.

In all, this week provides instances and signposts on where to hold our tongue, where to speak, how to adjust and attune our attitudes, both in the social and romantic areas. Making an effort to get things right is most important, since picking up the pieces, even after a fall is preferable to leaving them the way they are. The only challenge lies in working out which pieces to pick up.

Again, our intuition to be discreet and strategic with our actions is our best guide. Many of us are figuring out that what’s out there is really just as important as what lies within, except where Pluto is involved we may have to look a little deeper in what’s controlling the exterior. Try to ‘keep your cool’ when you sense that the exterior world’s subdued and largely invisible machinations are seen to be deliberately pushing you over the edge, trying to make you want to lose your cool. That’s how they get power over you. If you get crazy and hysterical – you lose.

We may see how our two worlds – that of superstition and of science – are vastly diverging now. We see how people are taking either extreme a little too literally. It is through faith that our ‘religion’ and ‘god-rituals’ (even if you are an atheist) must be seen through the lenses of pragmatism, with proper application into some worldly order or enterprising venture. Similarly, we must see how Newtonian, 3D physics and socio-political economics must aspire to ascend into the higher, quantum realms and not become stuck in a dark, anachronistic hole of contorted messes.

Religion and science must not become enemies. They cannot slip into petty hypocrisies over blatantly ignorant myths and convoluted facts. They must work together to help us put meaning and substance back into our lives, and we… we must keep our wits about how we choose to execute what we believe by applying a healthy regimen of first-hand investigation and reason, then mixing in some love & compassion.

Blessings, and may you have an amazing week xx
